On 6 March students in Y12 and Y13 were treated to a visit from Laura Steven - local author, journalist and screenwriter - who came in to share her experiences of her journey to becoming a published author.

Brought up and educated in Berwick-upon-Tweed, Laura spoke about the routes she’d taken through university and then into a career in journalism - giving students an insight into the world of writing, agents, editors and publishing.

Talking about her book ‘The Exact Opposite of Okay’ and its sequel,  ‘A Girl Called Shameless’ - both of which are in the Young Adult genre - Laura discussed the themes in her books and how she’d drawn on some of her own difficult experiences at school around cyber bullying and the misuse of social media platforms.

Our students were given the chance to ask Laura about her writing and both sessions were a big hit.

For more information about Laura's work visit Laura Steven.
