SSMS Curriculum Spiritual, Moral, Social, and Cultural Development
British Values
Seaton Sluice Middle School is committed to providing a secure environment for children where they feel safe and are kept safe. We aim to provide a broad and balanced curriculum so that our pupils are enriched, understand and become tolerant of difference and diversity and also to ensure that they thrive and feel valued. Schools are required to provide for the spiritual, moral, social and cultural (SMSC) development of their pupils. As part of this requirement we are expected to actively promote fundamental British values.
The Government defines ‘fundamental British values’ as:
- democracy
- the Rule of Law
- individual liberty
- mutual respect and tolerance of different faiths and beliefs
By promoting the fundamental British values, we will teach and encourage pupils to respect one another and to respect and tolerate difference, especially those of different faiths or no faith. If you have any questions or concerns about British values and what it means for your child, please do not hesitate to contact the school.
