Year 5 Shakespeare Day
On Wednesday 17 March, Year 5 had the fabulous opportunity of taking part in a poetry workshop with the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust beamed live into our classrooms!
This work fitted in with Mental health week and was based on the quote from Hamlet:
"This above all else, to thine own self be true." It was great fun to be introduced to the work of The Bard by playing at 'Sculptors and Statues', transforming ourselves into foul and monstrous beasts; love struck, wilful women and scheming, manipulative murderers!
We also shared our vivid, imaginative ideas to create a class 'Cinquain' about Caliban, a strange and enigmatic character from The Tempest:
Caliban,
Dreamer.
All alone.
Island captive.
Seeking a family.
We now cannot wait to start an English unit about Shakespeare next term! Shakespeare has certainly shaken us up!
