A magnificent achievement for Year 11 student Bailey who competed in his very first boxing match recently. Bailey won his first boxing home show at Seaton Delaval Terrace Club, winning the fight in three rounds and in two minutes of stepping into the ring! Bailey walked away with two trophies as he was also awarded Best Junior Boxer.
In preparation for his first fight, Bailey has trained intensely for the past three years at the Empire School of Boxing in Blyth. Bailey’s training program has included three key elements: training four times a week in tough sessions at his boxing club, running 5 - 6 miles three times a week and sparring against different opponents at different boxing gyms including Sunderland and Durham.
When asked whether he had any advice for other students interested in trying boxing Bailey said: "Give it a go, stick at it and work hard for it."
Mr Carbutt, Student Progress Leader Year 11: "I am very pleased to hear that Bailey has won his first fight. He has been talking about it enough in my PE lessons! I hope this is the first step in a good Boxing career for Bailey. Well done Bailey.”
