Last week, Victoria Cleland and Kay Rayment from the Bank of England came to Astley to speak with Year 10 students about what the Bank of England does.
They explained about the different denominations of currency we use, and the special notes used by banks including the one hundred million pound note! (See pic on slide 10)
In a previous role, Victoria was the chief cashier and her signature is still on £5 and £10 bank notes.
They also explained how the Bank of England hopes to tackle soaring inflation and reduce it back to 2% by 2024 by manipulating interest rates for borrowers.
