Seaton Valley Federation students were given the opportunity to participate in the democratic process by voting in two Northumberland Youth elections. The Northumberland Youth Cabinet and the UK Youth Parliament
The Northumberland Youth Cabinet is an elected body of 11 to 19-year-olds, representing the views of young people across Northumberland. The Youth Cabinet takes issues on a local level to decision makers, in order to influence change. They have a backing of young people to take forward their ideas and turn them into campaigns.
Three Astley students were brave enough to put themselves forward for election: Caroline P in Year 10, Alfie H in Year 9 and Marley C in Year 12.
As part of their campaign the candidates delivered speeches outlining their manifesto commitments in each of the year group assemblies. This is not an easy task and can be an intimidating experience, but each candidate was able to deliver their speech confidently and concisely.
The results were collected and counted at Northumberland County Hall and over 7,000 young people took part in voting with just under 14,000 votes being cast across both elections.
The results were declared on 29th February , follow this YouTube link to watch the declaration here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zrKpsu_YVC8
Caroline was successfully elected to the Northumberland Youth Cabinet, Unfortunately Alfie and Marley missed out in the Youth Parliament election.
