On 15th September, 5 East embarked on a project with Northumberland Archives involving a full week of exciting activities to learn about the history of the local area.
The week began with a trip to Woodhorn where the children were able to learn about archives; take part in a virtual tour and explore the archives within the museum. Discovering all about oral history was the focus of day 2 where the children interviewed knowledgeable members of the community and then furthered their learning journey by playing an informative board game.
Day 3 was a great highlight of the week when the children went on another trip to work with a professional animator at the Farrell Centre. After making a whole class animation, pupils created their own 'claymation' by manipulating plasticine to create a story about Seaton Sluice moving into the future. Their creations were amazing!
The final part of the week was designing structures for the future which they then constructed using cardboard. Following this, they used Tinkercad to create 3D images and were taught how to use AI to place them within the school grounds. Also, seeing a 3D printer bring structures to life was so fascinating to watch!
It was such a wonderful opportunity that opened the eyes of the children to the exciting world of possibilities and inspired them to consider career pathways to areas in which they were previously unaware. The week was thoroughly enjoyed by all and we are excited for our 2 other classes to take part in this thrilling experience soon!
