Our French word of the week this week is “le marché de Noël” - the Christmas market.

Many French Christmas markets will be opening this week and running through until the end of December.

Strasbourg, Metz and Colmar are renowned for their very popular Christmas markets, where you can sample delicious treats such as raclette (melted cheese over potatoes/bread), tarte flambée (a flatbread topped with crème fraîche, cheese and bacon, from the Alsace region), crêpes (pancakes) and pain d’épice (gingerbread).

Year 8 will be studying the Colmar Christmas market in more detail later in the year.
