ACHS student Junior has received a nomination for North East Rugby League, Under 14 Player of the Year. Junior plays rugby league for Whitley Bay Barbarians and rugby union for North Shields, training four times a week. He has played rugby for five years and looks forward to continuing. Junior who is attending an awards ceremony on Friday 24 September at Kingston Park Stadium said of his nomination: “I train with lots of other brilliant players who deserved nominations but I am proud to be nominated.”
Everyone at ACHS is extremely proud - well done Junior!
Mr Carbutt, Student Progress Leader, ACHS said: “I am very pleased to hear that Junior has been nominated for this award. I have taught Junior for a few years now and he has always shown great potential. This award is a fantastic marker for Junior at this stage of his life and should inspire him and others around him to strive to be the best they can be at whatever they choose. I hope Junior will see this as the first step in his rugby development. I know that both the Thunder and Falcons rugby teams are offering opportunities to students in year 10 this year and this only goes to show that students from the federation have the talent to be picked up by professional teams if they are committed. Well done Junior! Keep up the good work!”
Mr Scott, Head of School, ACHS commented: “Junior is a talented sportsman and we are delighted that he has received this nomination. It is testament to his hard work and attitude to his rugby that his efforts have been recognised. I look forward to seeing how he progresses in the future, as the potential for even greater success is definitely there. Best wishes Junior and very well done indeed from all at Astley!
