This morning Astley students had the opportunity to meet Hannah from the University of Oxford.
Hannah is the Outreach Officer from St Anne’s College, the link college with the North East region. Hannah spoke to Year 10 pupils about their future choices and about the variety of different courses that can be studied at Oxford and at other universities. She dispelled some of the myths about the type of people who study at Oxford and she explained how student finance is calculated and how to apply for it. Students were also told about the benefits of the Oxplore website and how it supports young people to find out more about subjects they are interested in.
Hannah then delivered a session to Year 12 students to help them apply for more competitive universities. She explained what the UCAS application process entails and showed some good examples of how to write an excellent personal statement that will make you stand out from the crowd.
