In Science at Seaton Sluice Middle School, Year 5 pupils have been investigating dissolving. Firstly, the children did a solubility test to discover which substances would dissolve. Following this, they chose a variable to test to discover how to speed up the dissolving process. This included: changing the size of the sugar particles; the amount of stirs; the type of sugar and the temperature of the water. The children used their real life experiences to make predictions. They were very sensible, inquisitive scientists!
Year 5 set up an experiment to see what would happen to a lit candle when they placed different sized beakers over the top. They made excellent predictions and their investigation helped them to understand the need for oxygen!
The pupils were also very excited to discover what happened when they mixed bicarbonate of soda with vinegar. Lots of fun was had by all!
